4TB Seagate ST4000LM024
Computer Could Not Detect this External Hard Disk
Initial Cause of Data Loss
A customer contacted us to recover his 4TB Seagate ST4000LM024 external hard drive. When he connected the drive to his computer, the computer could not detect the external hard disk. He changed to a different computer and different cables, but still undetectable. The drive spun after connecting to the computer but stopped after a while. The disk was not spinning anymore. There is no abnormal noise from the drive, and the hard disk is not clicking. He tried a few times, and it was the same. Usually, this is either because of the spindle motor issue or the read/write heads are faulty and stuck on the platters of the drive, causing the motor to be unable to spin up.
HDD Drive Recovery
Our data recovery specialist checked through the hard drive. During our assessment, the hard disk spun up successfully and did not stop, but there was a clicking noise from the hard disk. The purpose was disconnected from recovery tools to prevent platter damage, and the faulty read/write heads caused the clicking sound. The hard disk data recovery rate will depend on the condition of the platters. Data recovery will be possible if defective read/write heads do not damage the platters.
Data Recovery Outcome
The faulty read/write head does not damage the platter. Our data recovery specialist managed to recover the data from his hard drive. We transferred the recovered data to a new external hard drive, and he checked through all the data. He is happy with the result of the recovery.
Suggestion
Suppose you have a faulty hard drive with a clicking sound. In that case, it is best to disconnect it immediately and look for a proper data recovery center in Singapore for an assessment and recovery. Please feel free to contact us if you require any data recovery services.
