Recently, a customer contacted us to diagnose for his Western Digital My Book. It is a single My Book with a 3TB hard disk drive. He has been using the device for more than 5 years. Suddenly, this My Book cannot be detected by their personal computer. In file explorer, it is not showing any device, but on the notification area, it shows that the hard drive was connected. Have tried to disconnect and connect the hard drive again, but it is still the same. This My Book contains many years of photo which hold their precious memory. As a Singapore data recovery centre, we will assist to verify the drive status before any recovery action.
We assist to create a case ID for their My book before we proceed with the diagnosis. Our customer service officer tear-off the casing of this MyBook and assess the HDD directly. Our data recovery specialist discovers that the health condition of this hard drive dropped to 30%. It can still be power up and the spindle motor of the drive spins up successfully, but the r/w head of the drive were degraded that causes it failed to access the data sectors from the hard disk. After the confirmation with our client, we proceed with the recovery by replacing the faulty read write heads in the cleanroom before data extraction.
The data recovery was successful, and we manage to recover the data from the hard drive. We transferred the recovered data to a new external hard drive for our client. He checked the data and happy with the result of the recovery.
