We received a Western Digital 3.5" 2TB hard disk drive (HDD) extracted from a Western Digital MyBook Live. The HDD had been inaccessible for over a year. Although the drive spun as usual when connected to an Ethernet network, the indicator light did not blink, suggesting a potential issue. The client had removed the HDD from its casing and connected it directly to a computer, but it remained inaccessible.

Diagnosis and Recovery Process

Our recovery team undertook a detailed diagnostic process to determine the root cause of the inaccessibility. Initially, the problem might be hardware-related. However, after a thorough examination, it was determined that the issue was rooted in the operating system on the drive.
