Initial Cause of Data Loss

A client contacted us to recover data from their LaCie 2.5” 2TB hard disk drive (HDD). Some files had been accidentally deleted the night before. After attempting data recovery using the EaseUS application, the client could still not retrieve the lost files. The client also noted that certain files may have been accidentally moved into other folders, subsequently disappearing.

Diagnosis and Recovery Process

Our recovery team conducted a thorough analysis of the HDD. The drive was in good physical condition, with no hardware issues present, making the focus primarily on recovering the deleted and potentially misplaced files. However, it was discovered that the client continued using the drive after the data was deleted. This use led to partial overwriting of the deleted files, which posed challenges for complete data recovery.

After explaining the limitations caused by data overwriting, we obtained the client’s consent to proceed with a partial recovery to retrieve as much data as possible.

After an online data verification session, the client reviewed the recovered files and expressed satisfaction with the outcome, relieved that much of the data was successfully retrieved. We then transferred the recovered data to a new hard drive purchased from us for secure backup.
