Initial Cause of Data Loss

A client’s Seagate 2.5" 500GB hard drive suddenly became inaccessible on a Windows system. The drive contained important documents, photos, and videos, but it simply stopped responding without any symptoms.

Diagnostic

Once the drive arrived at our centre, our data recovery engineers conducted a full diagnostic assessment, including both logical and hardware-level checks.
The result revealed that the hard drive had suffered a read/write (R/W) failure. This occurs when the internal read/write heads (responsible for accessing data on the platters) malfunction. Normal wear and tear causes these components to fail, particularly in drives that have been in use for several years.
When a read/write failure occurs, continued attempts to access the drive can worsen the damage and significantly reduce the chances of recovery.

Data Recovery Outcome

Despite the read/write failure, our recovery team successfully retrieved nearly all of the client’s requested data.
An online data verification session was conducted to allow the client to review and confirm the recovered files. Once verified, the data was securely transferred to a new storage device, ready for safe use.
