Initial Cause of Data Loss

A customer contacted us to recover data from a 1TB Micron – Crucial MX500 SSD -  CT1000MX500SSD4. It is an PC internal SSD, and the SSD is not detectable and readable by computer anymore. When he powers on the PC, it failed to boot up and unable to detect the boot drive. He tried to remove the SSD from the PC to clean it and reinsert again, but it is still the same. He bought an SSD reader and tried to read the SSD from the enclosure but still undetectable. He sent the SSD to a recovery centre and they mentioned the SSD is dead and unable to recover anymore. He has a lot of media files like photos, videos, and Adobe Premiere project files ( .prproj ).

SSD Drives Recovery

EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds to diagnose the SSD and confirmed that the SSD has degraded and failed to work, short circuits were found. After the confirmation, we proceed with the recovery. Chip off recovery were applied and we managed to get direct access to the NAND flash chip and all the available data were extracted to a new working hard disk. The chips are in decent condition, recovery rate is almost 100%.

He checked the data and happy that all the edited videos files and Adobe Premiere files are recovered and in they are in working condition.

Suggestion

When it comes to a storage device, no matter what type of drive you choose, there is always a chance of device failure. When the device failed, it’s recommended to look for professional service to diagnose and recover the data. If you have important data on the device, it will be best not to try to diagnose or attempt recovery as it might cause further damage to the device and data will be lost.
