Solid State Drive (SSD) is a storage media that uses NAND Flash Chips. Both SSD and HDD handle data differently. SSD is a device that holds data using a set of electronic circuits which HDD store magnetic data on the platter’s surface. EHDR will discuss about 3 components of SSD.
A processor that consists of firmware and It acts as a bridge between PC and NAND Flash Chip. Controller of SSD is very crucial to its performance because it read and write, encryption, error detection and correction, mapping, and etc. Due to these functions performed by the controller, it will increase the complexity of SSD recovery.
Is a chip that store memory as a block using electric circuits. Some of the SSD consist more than 1 NAND Flash Chip. All chips are interrelated, if one of the NAND Flash Chip faulty, it may cause recovery failed. If there is a block that write and erase repeatedly, it will wear out the life of the SSD. During the recovery process, one must handle carefully. Any mistake done during the recovery process may cause the data loss permanently.
This chip is used to for volatile cache. It acts as a buffer in SSD. For example, if your SSD is currently used for video editing, music playing, online surfing, there are small amount of data buffer in Cache chip. It helps to increase the speed when you swift to another application and it can play directly. But this volatile cache memory power to maintain it. If the power or electrical current interrupted, the stored data will fade away.
