Hard Disk Data Recovery from a damaged Hard Disk.
We recently received a hard disk from a concerned customer who sought our assistance in retrieving important data from the device. Despite engaging various data recovery services in an attempt to repair the hard disk, he had remained unsuccessful.
Upon examination by our data recovery specialists, it was determined that the hard disk ribbon had been pulled out, and the hard drive body had been replaced.
Unfortunately, repairing the existing components through soldering was not a viable option given the condition of the hard disk. Our data recovery specialists advised the customer that the only feasible solution to recover the lost data was to extract the platter and install it into a new hard disk body.
Ever Higher maintains an extensive inventory of over 20,000 donor drives, from which we were able to source a compatible replacement casing.
Once the appropriate hard drive casing was acquired, the data recovery process commenced, which involved the delicate task of transferring the customer’s hard disk platter to this new body. This meticulous process began with the removal of the head stack assembly (HSA), which consists of read/write heads and disc platters.
Following approximately 30 minutes of work in the clean room by the data recovery engineer, the platters look comfortable in the new body. This marked the completion of the first stage of the data recovery process.
The next stage involved connecting the “new” disk to our MRT Data Recovery Tool to assess the functionality of the hard disk heads using our recovery tools.
The hard drive heads were found to be fully functional now, which is a development that was met with great enthusiasm. In fact, we had managed to recover 99% of the lost data for the customer, and all documents became accessible.
